· NMDC Steel achieves 2 million MT crude steel output in FY 2024-25.
· Boosts India’s domestic production and aligns with self-reliance goals.
· Signals operational maturity of Nagarnar plant and market readiness.
India's NMDC Steel has achieved a major production milestone by producing 2 million metric tonnes (MT) of crude steel in the fiscal year 2024-25, signaling strong operational momentum and a boost to the country’s domestic steel supply chain.
This landmark achievement reflects the company’s strategic focus on optimizing capacity utilization and enhancing operational efficiencies. NMDC Steel, which was demerged from India’s largest iron ore producer NMDC Ltd., has been steadily ramping up production at its Nagarnar Steel Plant in Chhattisgarh.
The plant, which has a total capacity of 3 million MT per annum, has shown consistent growth, contributing significantly to the government's broader goal of increasing domestic steel production under the National Steel Policy 2017.
The Ministry of Steel hailed the milestone as a testament to India's commitment to self-reliance in steel, reducing dependency on imports, and promoting indigenous production. The achievement also aligns with “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiatives.
Industry experts say this performance paves the way for NMDC Steel’s full-scale commercial operations and a more aggressive market presence in the years ahead.
