Indian Railways achieves record freight loading of 1154.67 MT Till December 2023

Indian Railways showcased a commendable performance in freight loading, achieving a remarkable milestone of 1154.67 Million Tonnes (MT) until December 2023, marking a significant upsurge of 45.28 MT compared to the corresponding period last year. This robust growth reflects the railways' sustained efforts and commitment to enhancing freight services and bolstering the nation's transportation infrastructure.

The revenue from freight loading from April to December 2023 stood at an impressive ₹ 125106.2 cr, displaying a substantial increase of ₹ 4626.92 cr compared to the same period last year, affirming the railways' robust financial performance and efficiency in cargo operations.

In December 2023 alone, Indian Railways achieved an originating freight loading of 138.99 MT, marking a noteworthy improvement of 6.37% compared to December 2022. This loading translated to a freight revenue of ₹ 15097.61 cr, showcasing an impressive growth of approximately 3.59% over the previous year.

The freight loading statistics for December 2023 highlight the diverse range of goods transported by Indian Railways, including 69 MT in Coal, 16.54 MT in Iron Ore, 6 MT in Pig Iron and Finished Steel, 7.23 MT in Cement (Excl. Clinker), 5.07 MT in Clinker, 4.26 MT in Foodgrains, 5.77 MT in Fertilisers, 4.33 MT in Mineral Oil, 7.70 MT in Containers, and 9.76 MT in various other commodities.

Indian Railways' unwavering commitment to cargo transportation, encapsulated in the ethos of "Hungry For Cargo," has driven sustained improvements in ease of doing business and service delivery at competitive prices. The railways' customer-centric approach, reinforced by agile policy-making and the concerted efforts of Business Development Units, has been pivotal in achieving this remarkable feat.

This impressive performance underlines Indian Railways' pivotal role in facilitating efficient freight movement, contributing significantly to the nation's economic growth and bolstering its position as a backbone of the country's transportation network.
