State-owned Central Coalfields Ltd (CCL) is considering a joint venture (JV) with the Jharkhand government for the second phase expansion of the Tenughat Thermal Power Station. The current capacity of the thermal station is 420 MW, with two units of 210 MW each operational since 1996 and 1997. Tenughat Vidyut Nigam Limited (TVNL) aims to set up 2X560 MW coal-fired supercritical units for the extension project at the Lalpania location in Bokaro district, Jharkhand.
CCL, a subsidiary of Coal India Ltd (CIL), wants to be a JV partner, with the state government providing land while CCL ensures coal supply. Discussions on the proposal took place last week between CCL officials and the Jharkhand government. Two panels will be formed to determine the partnership details in the JV, including the percentage contribution from both parties. CCL, a mini-Ratna central public sector enterprise formed in 1975, produced 76 MT of coal last fiscal, with a target of 84 MT for the current fiscal year.
