Govt. approves captive port for AM/NS India to support logistics at Hazira plant.
Step aligns with India’s focus on boosting steel sector infrastructure.
Enhanced port access expected to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
India has officially allocated a captive port facility to ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AM/NS) India for its steel plant operations. This development is seen as a major boost for AM/NS’s long-term expansion strategy and logistics efficiency.
The captive port will be instrumental in enhancing raw material import handling and finished goods export from AM/NS’s Hazira plant in Gujarat, one of India’s largest integrated flat steel producers. With this infrastructure advantage, the company expects to lower transportation costs, improve supply chain control, and reduce turnaround times significantly.
Government officials emphasized that this allocation aligns with India’s ‘Make in India’ and infrastructure growth objectives, facilitating global competitiveness for domestic steelmakers. The captive port will be developed under public-private partnership (PPP) norms, ensuring efficient and sustainable operation.
The move comes at a time when global steel producers are ramping up investments in India due to rising domestic demand and a favourable policy landscape.
