Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has announced plans to implement a new sand policy in the state aimed at meeting the needs of both the public and the government for revenue generation. Expressing dissatisfaction with the current sand policy, which he described as plagued by corruption, Reddy directed officials to study the sand policies adopted by neighbouring states like Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.

Warning against the scourge of illegal sand quarrying and transportation, the Chief Minister issued a 48-hour ultimatum to officials to take immediate action to curb such activities. Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) teams will conduct surprise inspections in all districts to eradicate corruption and illegal practices. Recent surprise inspections conducted in Nizamabad and Warangal by the transport department revealed alarming rates of unauthorised sand transportation, with 22 out of 83 inspected lorries found to be operating illegally. Reddy emphasised the need to halt such irregularities and proposed reforms within the Telangana State Mineral Development Corporation (TSMDC) and the Mines department.

To streamline the process, an integrated online system will be developed to collect building details, with the Mines and Geology Department tasked with issuing construction permits after on-site verification. Reddy also suggested the use of geo-tagging and GPS technology to prevent illegal granite and mineral mining and smuggling.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister instructed officials to compile a comprehensive report on pending cases related to granite and other quarries, along with their status before relevant agencies. These measures signify the government's commitment to combat corruption and ensure transparency in the mining sector for sustainable development.
