Turkey’s pig iron imports made a strong start to 2026, rising 42.6% year on year and 28.2% month on month to 226,166 metric tons in January. Import value also moved higher, reaching $78.55 million, up 29.4% from the same month last year and 29.9% from December. The latest figures point to firmer raw material demand in the Turkish steel market as buyers stayed active at the start of the year.
Russia remained Turkey’s leading supplier by a wide margin, shipping 170,270 mt in January, up 77.3% year on year. India followed with 50,950 mt, while Kazakhstan supplied 4,946 mt, down 68.2% from January 2025. The import mix shows Turkey continuing to rely heavily on Russian pig iron, with India also emerging as a notable source in the month.
