In response to the growing demands for coal transportation, the Ministry of Coal has recently introduced the Coal Logistics Policy and Integrated Coal Evacuation Plan. These measures aim to address challenges in coal transportation and include the construction of new railway lines, capacity augmentation of the railway network, First Mile Connectivity (FMC) Projects, Rail Connectivity projects, and Railway Sidings. The development of these evacuation facilities aligns with the country's long-term coal production projections.
To implement these measures, fourteen rail projects have been undertaken to enhance coal evacuation. Among these, five rail lines have already been commissioned, while the others are in various stages of construction.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Railways has planned additional rail projects under the Green Energy Corridor Projects, High-density network Projects, and Rail Sagar Projects. The promotion of coastal shipping and inland waterways is also being emphasised as alternative modes for coal evacuation.
This information was provided by Union Minister of Coal, Mines, and Parliamentary Affairs, Shri Pralhad Joshi, in a written response in the Rajya Sabha.
