Rourkela, India – Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has kicked off construction for a new pellet plant at its Rourkela Steel Mill, marking a significant step in boosting production efficiency and reducing raw material costs. This new facility is expected to enhance the plant's overall productivity by converting iron ore fines into high-quality pellets.
The groundbreaking ceremony witnessed senior officials from SAIL and key stakeholders emphasizing the strategic importance of the plant. Once completed, the pellet plant is anticipated to have a production capacity of 4 million tonnes per annum, ensuring a steady supply of pellets for the blast furnaces at the Rourkela Steel Mill.
Enhancing Efficiency and Sustainability
This investment is part of SAIL’s broader strategy to enhance operational efficiency and reduce dependency on external raw materials. By utilizing iron ore fines effectively, the pellet plant will not only optimize resource utilization but also contribute to reducing the environmental impact associated with raw material transport.

The construction of the pellet plant is also expected to provide a boost to the local economy, generating employment opportunities during the construction phase and operational period. Local suppliers and contractors are likely to benefit from increased demand for goods and services.
