Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has been awarded a huge project to build a bridge across the Brahmaputra in Assam. L&T classifies contracts valued between ₹2,500 and ₹5,000 crore as major orders.
According to a filing with the BSE, " L&T Construction's transportation infrastructure business has won a project contract to construct the Palashbari to Sualkuchi cable-stayed bridge across the river Brahmaputra in Assam." The Public Works Roads Department (PwRD), Assam, has awarded the project. The 12.21-kilometre bridge will physically connect Palashbari and Sualkuchi towns.
Traditional Assamese clothing is woven in Sualkuchi, one of the biggest weaving hubs in the world. It uses local resources like Muga, the golden silk only created there. The bridge will also directly connect Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (GAU), Assam. The project is scheduled to be completed in four years.
The project will have a 3.6 Km long cable-stayed bridge portion, a 5.61 Km approach on the Palashbari side, and a 3.0 Km approach on the Sualkuchi side, including wetland approach viaducts. The maximum span of the extra-dosed cable-stayed portion will be 165 m. The project is scheduled to be completed in 48 months.
L&T is already executing the Dhubri Phulbari Bridge Project for the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL), among several other infrastructure projects in Assam.
