The Government of India has constituted an advisory committee to initiate reforms aimed at increasing domestic iron ore production. The move is designed to strengthen raw material availability for the steel sector and reduce reliance on imports.

The committee will review existing challenges in the mining sector and suggest measures to streamline approvals, improve infrastructure, and encourage modern exploration and extraction methods. It will also work on easing regulatory processes, ensuring sustainable mining practices, and creating a roadmap for long-term resource security.

With India’s steel industry expanding rapidly, securing iron ore supply is critical to meeting future demand. The government’s initiative is expected to enhance efficiency, lower costs, and support the nation’s goal of becoming a global leader in steel production.
