On February 13, in New Delhi, the Ministry of Defence inked a contract with Hyderabad-based Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for the procurement of 11 Shakti Electronic Warfare Systems for the Indian Navy, as well as supporting equipment and accessories.
According to the Ministry of Defence release, this procurement is being conducted at a total cost of ₹2269.54 crore under the Buy Indian category.
The Shakti EW System is entirely indigenously planned, developed, and manufactured. This technology, intended for use on Indian Navy vessels, can precisely detect electronic emissions and apply countermeasures in densely populated electromagnetic environments.
The project will generate employment of two and half lakh man-days over a period of four years with participation of more than 155 industry partners including MSMEs, thus furthering the vision of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat,' the statement from the Ministry of Defence said.
