ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) has secured a technology license that allows it to market and sell processed steel slag for use in road construction projects. This move aligns with the company’s broader sustainability goals and supports the circular economy by repurposing industrial by-products.
Steel slag, a by-product of steel manufacturing, can be effectively utilized as an eco-friendly alternative to traditional road-building materials like crushed stone and gravel. The licensed technology ensures the slag is processed and treated to meet government standards for road infrastructure.
With India investing heavily in national highway expansion and smart city projects, India’s new capability is timely. It enables the company to offer low-cost, durable, and environmentally responsible material to infrastructure developers across the country.
The initiative also supports waste reduction at steel plants while contributing to resource efficiency and lower carbon emissions in construction. AM/NS India is positioning this development as a step toward greener operations and sustainable infrastructure growth.
As one of India’s leading integrated steel producers, AM/NS India’s entry into slag commercialization adds a valuable dimension to its portfolio—merging environmental stewardship with business innovation.
