The much-anticipated Baldota Steel Plant project in Koppal has come to an abrupt halt after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah directed district authorities to stop preparations. The move comes amid rising opposition from activists and local communities.
Despite the CM’s directive on Tuesday, initial groundwork for the project reportedly continued on Wednesday. However, mounting pressure from environmental activists and land rights groups led to immediate intervention by district officials. Protesters rushed to the proposed site, condemning the delay in enforcing the CM’s orders.
Opposition groups argue that the project could lead to displacement and environmental damage, while supporters highlight its potential for industrial growth and employment generation.
Following the halt, the Baldota Group and government officials are expected to engage in further discussions regarding the project’s future. The state government is likely to reassess the impact of the plant before making a final decision.
