Coal Ministry achieves record 99.73 MT production in January 2024

The Ministry of Coal reported an impressive surge in coal production, reaching 99.73 million tonnes (MT) in January 2024. This surpasses the previous year's figures of 90.42 MT for the same month, reflecting a notable growth of 10.30%. 

Coal India Limited (CIL) contributed to this achievement with a production of 78.41 MT in January 2024, demonstrating a commendable growth of 9.09% compared to the 71.88 MT recorded in January 2023. The cumulative coal production, up to January 2024, witnessed a remarkable leap to 784.11 MT (Provisional) in FY’ 23-24, exhibiting a growth rate of 12.18% in comparison to 698.99 MT during the corresponding period in FY’ 22-23. 

The dispatch of coal also experienced a substantial increase, touching 87.37 MT in January 2024, compared to 82.02 MT in January 2023, representing a growth rate of 6.52%. Coal India Limited's dispatch performance was noteworthy, reaching 67.56 MT in January 2024, showcasing a growth of 4.83% from the 64.45 MT recorded in January 2023. The cumulative coal dispatch, up to January 2024, stood at 797.66 MT (Provisional) in FY’ 23-24, exhibiting a commendable growth of 10.82% compared to 719.78 MT in the corresponding period of FY’ 22-23.

As of January 31, 2024, coal stock held by coal companies experienced a notable surge, reaching 70.37 MT, showcasing an impressive annual growth rate of 47.85%, highlighting the sector's robust performance and efficiency. Simultaneously, the coal stock at Thermal Power Plants (TPP), particularly at the designated DCB location, marked a significant increase to 36.16 MT on the same date, with an annual growth rate of 15.26%.

These statistics underscore the coal sector's resilience and its commitment to meeting the nation's energy demands. The Ministry of Coal continues its dedication to fostering sustained growth and efficiency within the sector.
