India–US Trade Tensions Rise Over Steel and Auto Tariffs NMDC Limited reports a 38% drop in Q4 FY24 consolidated net profit RINL to Raise $23 Million Through Land Sales Amid Crisis
Heavy monsoon rains across India have disrupted logistics and steel production activity. Mills are facing weak domestic demand, leading to reduced appetite for imported scrap. Many buyers are delaying fresh bookings, waiting for clarity on weather and domestic steel prices.
Imported scrap offers remained range-bound as Indian mills adopted a cautious approach. Suppliers struggled to attract firm bids amid sluggish sentiment. Traders noted that landed cost parity and uncertain finished steel demand are preventing large-scale imports.
Bangladesh’s steelmakers continued their cautious stance, with limited buying interest. Market participants highlighted that liquidity challenges and slow construction activity are restricting fresh scrap purchases. Only select deals were reported, mostly to cover immediate requirements.
South Asia’s scrap import market remains under pressure due to seasonal disruptions and weak downstream demand. Until monsoon conditions ease in India and construction activity picks up in Bangladesh, scrap trade flows are expected to stay muted. Suppliers may need to adjust offers further to stimulate demand.
