Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP), operated by Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), has set a new benchmark in its revival journey by achieving its highest-ever single-day hot metal production of 21,205 tonnes on December 15, 2025. The record output came from the plant’s three blast furnaces and underscores a sharp improvement in operational stability and capacity utilisation.
According to the company, Blast Furnace-1 produced 6,569 tonnes, Blast Furnace-2 6,592 tonnes, and Blast Furnace-3 8,044 tonnes, reflecting balanced performance across the unit. The milestone is the culmination of a sustained upward trend through December, with hot metal output rising from 17,036 tonnes on December 1 and repeatedly crossing the 20,000-tonne mark on multiple days, including December 7, 11 and 12.
Management credited the achievement to effective operational planning, close coordination between departments and disciplined furnace management. Industry experts noted that the performance highlights VSP’s technical resilience and the workforce’s ability to maintain steady operations despite past financial and supply challenges.
The new production record is being seen as a positive signal for VSP’s ongoing turnaround efforts and its contribution to India’s long-products segment, where the plant remains an important supplier to infrastructure and construction projects.
