The decision aligns with Tata Steel’s ongoing efforts to increase female workforce participation in operations and engineering roles, traditionally dominated by men.The company stated that it has put in place robust safety, transportation, and workplace infrastructure measures to ensure the well-being of women employees working during night shifts.
Tata Steel’s Chief Human Resources Officer said the initiative aims to create a more inclusive and progressive industrial environment, enabling women to contribute across core production, quality, and maintenance functions.
The move follows the company’s long-standing focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), under which women currently make up over 15% of its managerial and operational workforce.
Industry observers hailed the step as a milestone for India’s heavy industry, setting a benchmark for inclusive workplace practices in the manufacturing and steel sectors.
