JSW Steel rises 2% on gas supply worries HSBC raises Tata Steel target to ₹250 British Steel to supply 120,000 mt billet to Nigeria ₹3,200 crore Tata Steel EAF starts in Ludhiana
Tata Steel said a Dutch non-profit foundation, Stichting Frisse Wind.nu (SFW), has initiated collective action proceedings against its Netherlands subsidiaries Tata Steel Nederland B.V. and Tata Steel IJmuiden B.V. in the District Court of North Holland (Haarlem). Tata Steel disclosed that SFW served a writ of summons on under the Dutch mass-claims framework WAMCA.
SFW alleges damages linked to the companies’ operations in Velsen-Noord/IJmuiden, particularly emissions of hazardous and/or harmful substances, and is seeking about €1.4 billion in compensation, citing health impacts and loss of enjoyment of homes, alongside the claim that regional home values lag comparable areas.
Tata Steel Netherlands (TSN) has rejected the allegations as “unsubstantiated and speculative”, stating SFW has provided no supporting evidence, and said it will vigorously defend the case.
The company noted WAMCA cases run in two phases admissibility and merits with each phase expected to take around 2–3 years, meaning any debate on the claim amount is not expected soon.
