SAIL Powers Construction of India’s longest Himalayan Road Tunnel.
Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has supplied a significant quantity of steel for the construction of India’s longest road tunnel, Zojila Tunnel in the Himalayan region. This major infrastructure project, situated in the challenging terrain of Jammu and Kashmir, is set to revolutionize transportation by ensuring year-round connectivity through the Pir Panjal mountain range.
The tunnel, part of the strategic Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has supplied a significant quantity of steel for the construction of India's longest road tunnel in the Himalayan region. This major infrastructure project, situated in the challenging terrain of Jammu and Kashmir, is set to revolutionize transportation by ensuring year-round connectivity through the Pir Panjal mountain range.
The tunnel, part of the strategic Srinagar–Leh highway, is designed to withstand harsh weather and geological conditions. SAIL provided various grades of steel, including TMT bars, structurals, and plates, all tailored to meet the project’s demanding technical and safety requirements.
This collaboration marks a significant milestone in SAIL’s contribution to nation-building and infrastructure development. The project not only improves regional mobility but also strengthens defense logistics and supports economic growth in the northern frontier.
