The Review Planning & Monitoring (RPM) meeting convened in New Delhi on January 18th and 19th, 2024, under the chairpersonship of Union Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy, Shri R. K. Singh. This pivotal gathering brought together key stakeholders from the power sector, including the Secretary (Power) and Secretary (MNRE) of the Government of India, as well as Additional Chief Secretaries, Secretaries, and Principal Secretaries (Power/Energy) from various states. Additionally, Chief Managing Directors (CMDs) of State Power Utilities actively participated in discussions shaping the future of the power landscape in the country. One of the significant highlights of this meeting was the launch of the third edition of Consumer Service Ratings for Distribution Companies (DISCOMs). This comprehensive report, covering the performance of DISCOMs for the fiscal year 2022-23, revealed noteworthy achievements. Four DISCOMs, namely NPCL (Uttar Pradesh), BRPL, BYPL, and TPDDL (Delhi), emerged as frontrunners by securing the coveted A+ rating, the highest possible grade. This recognition underscores their commitment to providing exemplary services and sets a benchmark for others in the sector. During the meeting, Union Minister Shri R. K. Singh expressed optimism about the transformative potential of such ratings. He emphasized that these rankings not only recognize excellence but also act as a catalyst for continual improvement. By acknowledging and rewarding the top performers, the DISCOMs are encouraged to raise the bar, ultimately benefiting consumers and contributing to the overall efficiency of the power sector.
