Odisha is poised to receive an additional 1,463 MW of power from the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) through the commissioning of upcoming and completed projects. This comes in addition to the 933 MW already allocated to the state from its existing thermal power plants. The peak power demand in Odisha is reported to be between 4,500 MW to 5,000 MW.
Sudip Nag, the regional executive director for eastern regions I and II, shared this information during a media address. He highlighted the completion of two major projects, namely the NTPC Darlipali Super Thermal Power Station and the NSPCL Rourkela PP-II Expansion Project. These achievements are set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Sambalpur.
The completed projects represent a significant stride in the region's power infrastructure. The NTPC Darlipali Super Thermal Power Station and NSPCL Rourkela PP-II Expansion Project, with a combined investment of ₹28,978 cr, are expected to play a crucial role in meeting the energy needs of Odisha. These projects are a testament to the commitment of the government to enhance power generation capabilities and provide reliable electricity to the citizens.
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi will also lay the foundation stone for the NTPC Talcher Thermal Power Project stage III. This marks another substantial investment in the power sector, underscoring the government's focus on strengthening the country's energy infrastructure. The collective impact of these three projects is poised to significantly contribute to Odisha's energy landscape.
It is noteworthy that the NTPC has already allocated 933 MW of power to Odisha from its existing plants, emphasising the corporation's role in supporting the state's energy requirements. The additional power from the upcoming projects will further bolster Odisha's capacity to meet the growing demands for electricity, potentially easing any supply constraints during peak periods.
The completion and dedication of these power projects in Odisha signify a positive step towards achieving energy self-sufficiency and addressing the increasing power demands in the region. The strategic investments made by the NTPC and the government's commitment to such projects are expected to have a lasting impact on the state's power sector, ensuring a reliable and sustainable source of electricity for its residents.
