To get the project started fast, the Centre issued a gazette notification last week appointing sub-divisional officials and a relief and rehabilitation officer for land acquisition for a 32-kilometre greenfield route connecting to the proposed Vadhavan port.

The highway will need to be acquired in 571 hectares. It will be connected to the Mumbai-Ahmedabad and Mumbai-Vadodara highways. The port will be developed by reclaiming 1,448 hectares from the sea.
