Hindustan Zinc Limited, India's largest zinc producer, inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with AEsir Technologies Inc., a US-based business that specialises in zinc battery technologies. In accordance with the MoU, the producer will provide AEsir Technologies with zinc.

Zinc-brd batteries are a viable alternative to other modern energy storage systems. According to a press release from Hindustan Zinc, they provide more power at reduced costs, require little maintenance, and can last up to 20 years.

“Zinc is integral to a low-carbon future. At Hindustan Zinc, our focus is to produce metals sustainably for applications that power the ongoing global energy transition. This partnership with AEsir Technologies is yet another step in our ongoing developmental work in the emerging clean technology space,” said Arun Misra, CEO of Hindustan Zinc Limited.

The MoU is consistent with Hindustan Zinc's efforts to investigate potential zinc applications in the clean energy transition. Zinc batteries are corrosion-resistant, inexpensive, easily recyclable, long-lasting, and environmentally benign. They are made of non-flammable materials, are impervious to air and water, and emit no hazardous emissions. “By providing high-quality zinc for cutting-edge energy storage, we are opening sophisticated new avenues for environmentally friendly solutions for a greener tomorrow,” Misra added.

AESir’s Nickel Zinc batteries are used in the high-end defence sector, renewable energy, critical infrastructure for data centres, and 5G telecom. “Energy storage is at the forefront of every major innovation in the energy transition space. Zinc batteries are the best story around energy storage. We are achieving great innovation in this space and this collaboration with Hindustan Zinc provides us with critical raw material for the development of next-gen Nickel Zinc batteries, said Randy Moore, CEO & Co-Founder of AEsir Technologies.
