Hebei, China’s largest steel-producing province, plans to certify more than 20 types of green steel by 2026 as part of its metallurgical industry modernization plan. The province also aims to develop more than 30 new steel products, achieve breakthroughs in 25 key technologies and accelerate 36 key projects.
The move highlights Hebei’s push toward low-carbon steel, advanced manufacturing and higher-value products. Officials are focusing on specialty segments such as electrical steel and stainless steel products to reduce dependence on standard mass production.
For the global steel industry, Hebei’s green steel roadmap signals China’s stronger focus on decarbonization, product innovation and carbon footprint reduction, at a time when buyers are demanding cleaner and more sustainable steel.
