The Chhattisgarh government, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has chosen to bring back an aluminum park project that was first put forth in 2021 to support small-scale companies in Korba, which is approximately 250 kilometers away from here. The agreement was made between the Chhattisgarh government and Bharat Aluminium Company Ltd (BALCO), a Vedanta Limited subsidiary, for the subsidised supply of raw aluminium to small-scale  industries.

BALCO, in which the Indian government has a 49% stake, can produce 570,000 tonnes of aluminium. After taking over the control with a 51% stake in 2001, Vedanta Limited has planned to enhance the capacity to 1 million tonnes per annum. The state government eyes to explore the opportunity and plans to set up an aluminum park. Under the proposal, about 140 hectares of land was required. The plan was soon put on the back burner.
