Boosts AMNS India’s 2030 green goal
ArcelorMittal has begun supplying clean electricity to its Indian joint venture, ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AMNS India), from a newly commissioned 1-gigawatt (GW) hybrid renewable energy project in Andhra Pradesh. Developed by AM Green Energy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of ArcelorMittal, the $0.7 billion project integrates solar and wind power with a hydro pumped storage system, ensuring a steady supply of renewable energy.
Project Scale: The renewable energy facility spans 3,100 acres, comprising 1.5 million solar panels and 91 wind turbines, collectively generating 2.5 billion kilowatt-hours annually.
Environmental Impact: The project is expected to reduce AMNS India's carbon emissions by approximately 1.5 million tonnes per year, contributing to the company's goal of a 20% reduction in carbon intensity by 2030, compared to 2021 levels.
Energy Supply: Over 20% of the electricity requirements at AMNS India's Hazira steel plant in Gujarat will be met through this renewable energy source, enhancing energy security and supporting decarbonization efforts.
