Renewable energy major ACME Group has announced plans to invest ₹5,000 crore to set up a green steel manufacturing facility in India, marking its entry into the sustainable metals sector.
The project aims to produce low-emission steel using green hydrogen generated from renewable energy sources such as solar and wind. The initiative aligns with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and supports the nation’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.
According to company officials, the proposed plant will have an initial capacity of 1 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) and will be developed in phases. ACME plans to integrate its renewable energy and hydrogen production expertise to decarbonize the steelmaking process.
The investment is expected to create significant employment opportunities and position ACME as a key player in India’s green industrial ecosystem. Industry experts said this move underscores a growing shift among Indian companies toward clean energy-led steel production, reducing dependency on fossil fuels.
ACME’s entry into green steel highlights a major milestone in the country’s transition toward sustainable industrial growth and carbon-neutral manufacturing.
