India’s steel ministry has stepped in as steel and forging units face growing pressure from an LPG shortage linked to disrupted shipments through the Strait of Hormuz. According to the report, the ministry has approached the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas to explore what support can be provided under current conditions. The shortage is already affecting industrial clusters such as Jalandhar, where nearly 300 units depend on commercial LPG for hot-forging operations. Industry representatives warned that any prolonged disruption could slow production, strain supply commitments, hurt margins, and impact jobs as well as future investment in value-added steel products. The development highlights how geopolitical tensions in West Asia are beginning to ripple through India’s manufacturing and steel supply chain, raising concerns over fuel access, output continuity, and industrial competitiveness.
