Vedanta Aluminium's Lanjigarh plant in Odisha has increased its annual alumina refining capacity to 3.5 million tonnes (MT). The company stated in a statement that its previous capacity for refining alumina was 2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).
The Vedanta Group company stated that in addition to raising aluminium production capacity to 3 MTPA from 2.37 MTPA at present, it wants to enhance alumina refining capacity to 5 MTPA further.
"We expanded the capacity, which strengthens our raw material security and reduces costs for our Jharsuguda and BALCO aluminium smelters," stated the CEO of Vedanta Aluminium. This is a big step towards complete vertical integration and puts the company in a good position to grow sustainably in the global aluminium market.
