The Odisha government is reviewing land acquisition hurdles delaying key infrastructure projects, including the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) expansion and the Rourkela airport upgrade. These projects are crucial for the region’s industrial and economic growth.

Land Issues Stalling Progress

Officials revealed that unresolved land disputes and pending clearances have caused significant project delays. The expansion of RSP, operated by SAIL (Steel Authority of India Limited), aims to boost production capacity and modernize operations. However, encroachments and rehabilitation challenges have slowed progress.

Similarly, the planned expansion of Rourkela airport, which aims to enhance regional connectivity, is facing land acquisition bottlenecks. Authorities are working to resolve these issues to fast-track development.

Government Steps In

In a high-level meeting, state officials discussed strategies to accelerate land approvals and streamline processes. The government is keen to ensure that industrial and infrastructure projects proceed without further delays, reinforcing Odisha’s role as a key steel and manufacturing hub.
