ARS Steel, a Chennai-based steel manufacturer, has become India’s first recipient of the 5-Star Green Steel Certification, awarded by the Ministry of Steel through the National Institute of Secondary Steel Technology (NISST). This recognition underscores ARS Steel’s commitment to sustainable steel production.
The company achieved a greenness rating of 70.8% and an emission intensity of 0.6432 tCO₂e per tonne of steel currently the lowest among all certified producers. The certification is valid until March 31, 2026.
The milestone was enabled by Sentra.World, a carbon management platform that guided ARS Steel through registration, real-time emissions tracking, and independent verification. The partnership ensured compliance with India’s newly introduced Green Steel rating system, designed to promote cleaner industrial practices.
Earlier, ARS Steel also delivered India’s first green TMT bars to Epic Group’s sustainable facility in Bhubaneswar, further establishing its leadership in eco-friendly steel solutions.
This achievement comes at a critical time, as India advances toward its net-zero emissions goal by 2070. With the construction sector contributing significantly to carbon emissions, green steel is set to play a vital role in shaping a more sustainable future.
