The state government has granted approval for the development of an 84-kilometre greenfield road linking the Surjagarh iron ore mines to Konseri village in Gadchiroli district. Lloyds Metals and Energy Limited (LMEL) oversees operations at the Surjagarh iron ore mine and is in the process of establishing an integrated steel plant at Konseri. According to the official order, this road will facilitate efficient and rapid transportation of iron ore from the mines to the steel plant.
A government resolution (GR) pertaining to the road project highlights the anticipated socio-economic benefits of the integrated steel project, including the creation of 15,000 employment opportunities, thereby fostering the overall development of the region. Additionally, the road infrastructure is expected to enhance access to healthcare services and various government schemes, ensuring their timely delivery.
Moreover, the Konseri plant is slated for expansion within the next 1-2 years, which will lead to increased mineral transportation from the Surjagarh mines to the Konseri plant. Consequently, a dedicated mineral transport road will be established, with the route from Navegaon Mor, Surjagargh, to Konseri via Mulchera-Hedri being finalised as the most suitable option among the alternatives considered, as per the recent order issued on Wednesday.
Furthermore, the connectivity of Gadchiroli district to developed areas of the state will be enhanced through infrastructure projects such as the Samruddhi Mahamarg constructed by the state government and the Durg-Hyderabad access control expressway initiated by the central government.
In a separate move, the state has sanctioned 55 new buses for the district to facilitate school transportation for children, especially girls, from rural areas. Emphasising the importance of education, particularly for girls up to Class 12, the decision to allocate new vehicles was made considering the ageing condition of the existing fleet, as stated in the order.
