The proposed Noida Airport is expected to provide direct access to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. The Uttar Pradesh government has approved a ₹16,000 crore rapid rail route connecting the two airports and other parts of Delhi. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) is working on a thorough project study that should be finished by March.

The project will take four years to finish after it is started, according to Shailendra Bhatia, the Nodal Officer for the Uttar Pradesh government at Noida International Airport Limited.

The rail corridor will significantly boost the greenfield’s airport attraction and allow it to capture spillover passenger traffic from the Delhi Airport. The airport is slated to have its first flight late this year and has already signed agreements with IndiGo and Akasa Air to launch flights.

While the GMR group operates the Delhi Airport, Zurich Airport has won the contract to operate Noida Airport. In other major cities where there are multiple airports, they are similar, with high-speed rail networks to smoothen passenger transfers.

According to the proposal, the Noida airport link will branch out of Ghaziabad station, which is one of the interchange stations of Delhi Meerut Rapid Rail Transport.

Passengers will be able to connect to the under-construction. Delhi-Alwar Rapid Rail through Sarai Kale Khan is the originating station of Delhi-Meerut Rail. The Delhi-Alwar rail, set to be completed by mid-2025, will have a station at Indira Gandhi International Airport along with Aerocity.

“This will be a crucial link for increasing airport connectivity and other road networks. It is important to have a high-speed connection between the two airports and the Delhi area to increase its catchment area. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has cleared the project’, Bhatia said, adding that the total travel time will be around 80 minutes.
