Ukraine brought in 65.28 thousand tons of flat-rolled steel in January 2026, up 26.7% year-on-year but 11% lower month-on-month, signaling steady demand with a softer start versus December’s run-rate. Coated flat products led the mix, making up about half of total imports at 31.68 thousand tons, a category widely used in roofing, appliances, and fabrication. Turkey remained the key supplier, supported by smaller inflows from European mills.
Hot-rolled flat products accounted for 18.97 thousand tons (about 29% share), while cold-rolled imports reached 7.69 thousand tons, with Turkey supplying the bulk of this segment.
Despite higher volumes versus last year, the import bill fell to $66.85 million, down 21.9% year-on-year, suggesting lower prices, a different product mix, or both. The trend fits a market where buyers are balancing availability, lead times, and cost—especially for coated and processed flat steel used in day-to-day industrial consumption.
