Project aligns with company’s focus on domestic market and value-added steel
Tata Steel has successfully completed the expansion of its Kalinganagar facility in Odisha, increasing its crude steel production capacity from 3 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 8 MTPA. The ₹25,000-crore expansion is part of the company’s strategic vision to strengthen its domestic steel footprint and meet the growing demand for high-grade, value-added steel products in India.
The brownfield expansion includes a state-of-the-art cold rolling mill complex, a new pellet plant, and an advanced raw material handling system, significantly enhancing operational efficiency. The company emphasized that this capacity boost would not only improve product mix but also strengthen its ability to serve sectors like automotive, construction, and infrastructure.
Tata Steel also highlighted its commitment to sustainable growth through modern, energy-efficient technologies incorporated into the expanded facilities. With this development, the Kalinganagar plant now becomes one of the largest and most advanced steelmaking sites in India.
