Tata Steel has appointed three Wales-based contractors to support its ambitious green steel-making project at its Port Talbot facility. This move aligns with the company’s broader decarbonization strategy to transition towards low-carbon steel production in the UK.
The selected contractors will play a crucial role in infrastructure development, dismantling old structures, and preparing the site for the installation of an electric arc furnace (EAF). The shift to EAF technology is expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions, making steelmaking more sustainable.
This initiative is part of Tata Steel’s £1.25 billion investment plan, backed by the UK government, to modernize steel production and ensure long-term economic and environmental benefits. By involving local contractors, the company is also boosting regional employment and strengthening its supply chain.
