Suryadev Alloys and Power, an integrated steel and power company, has introduced a new line of anti-corrosion TMT bars for the construction industry. The Suryadev Fe550D CRS TMT Bars, made of copper, chromium, and nickel, were introduced in the midst of varied climates, providing a tremendous task to the country.

According to a study cited by the firm in a statement, coastal locations may experience up to four times the corrosion rate compared to inland places. This problem is expected to cost the economy 3-4% of GDP annually and is a major source of concern for the entire country.

At Suryadev Alloys and Power, the challenge of corrosion is met with a relentless pursuit of innovation. In response to these challenges, the TMT bars significantly extend the lifespan of structures while minimizing the environmental impact. The Suryadev Fe550D CRS TMT bar serves as the perfect shield against elements, the company said, as it is meticulously manufactured from high-quality iron ore. The company was exploring ground-breaking technologies and methods by partnering with academic institutions to "decarbonize steelmaking."

Suryadev has undertaken several infrastructure projects for the Chennai Metro Rail Ltd, Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway, and Chennai Peripheral Ring Road, among others. The company added that it has a facility at New Gummidipoondi in the neighbouring Tiruvallur district with an annual finished steel capacity of 6 lakh tonnes.
