Steel Exchange India Ltd (SEIL) has announced plans to develop a General Cargo Terminal (GCT) and Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) in Visakhapatnam, marking a strategic expansion beyond its core steel business. The initiative will be executed in collaboration with Vizag Profiles Logistics and Hind Terminals.
The proposed facility aims to enhance cargo movement efficiency, streamline coastal and inland logistics, and reduce transit time for diverse cargo types. SEIL’s move is expected to play a key role in boosting trade connectivity, supporting industrial growth, and strengthening port infrastructure in the eastern corridor.
Located strategically near key industrial zones and Vizag Port, the terminal will serve as a vital hub for multi-modal cargo handling connecting rail, road, and sea transport. This development is aligned with India’s broader focus on integrated logistics and infrastructure modernization under the Gati Shakti mission.
SEIL’s diversification into the logistics sector reflects its forward-looking strategy to tap into high-growth areas beyond steel manufacturing. By capitalizing on its operational strengths and regional presence, the company aims to become a significant player in cargo and supply chain solutions across East India.
This venture not only supports economic development in Andhra Pradesh but also positions SEIL as a key contributor to India’s evolving logistics ecosystem.
