SML’s stainless steel output grew 4% in April 2025.

Steady demand from infra and industrial sectors aided the rise.

Capacity expansion plans under review for future growth.

India-based Shyam Metalics and Energy Limited (SML) reported a 4% increase in stainless steel production for April 2025, according to company officials. The growth comes amid steady demand from the infrastructure, automotive, and industrial sectors across the country.

The company’s stainless steel division produced approximately 78,000 tonnes in April, up from 75,000 tonnes in March 2025. The rise in production aligns with broader trends in India’s steel industry, where stainless steel demand has remained resilient despite fluctuating raw material prices and geopolitical pressures.

Industry experts suggest the consistent uptick is supported by ongoing infrastructure projects, railways procurement, and increased consumption from the white goods sector. “SML’s operational efficiency and improved plant utilization rates have contributed to the output growth,” a company spokesperson stated.

SML is also reportedly evaluating capacity expansions at its Odisha facility to meet growing market requirements, with discussions expected to materialize in the coming quarters. Market analysts anticipate stable to firm demand for stainless steel in India in the short term, which could further bolster production figures.

The company’s management reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable and efficient production processes, ensuring compliance with environmental norms while focusing on operational profitability.
