Steel Authority of India Limited’s (SAIL) Rourkela Steel Plant has signed an agreement with a consortium to construct a state-of-the-art pellet plant. The project aims to enhance raw material efficiency and reduce production costs by converting iron ore fines into pellets.
The new pellet plant is expected to boost SAIL’s production capacity while ensuring sustainable and cost-effective steel manufacturing. The plant will also help in reducing dependence on imported raw materials, strengthening India’s self-reliance in the steel sector.
Speaking on the occasion, Rourkela Steel Plant’s CEO, Anirban Dasgupta, stated, “This strategic initiative will enhance our operational efficiency and contribute to sustainable growth.” He also emphasized that the plant aligns with SAIL’s commitment to environmental sustainability by reducing waste and energy consumption.
The consortium, comprising leading technology providers and construction firms, will be responsible for designing, engineering, and commissioning the plant. The project is expected to generate employment opportunities and support the local economy.
Industry experts believe that this move will strengthen SAIL’s market position and enhance its competitiveness in the global steel industry. The pellet plant is set to be a key asset in meeting the growing demand for high-quality steel products.
