SAIL’s Rourkela Steel Plant has posted its best-ever performance in FY26, setting new production records across major units and improving key efficiency indicators. The plant reported peak output from both blast furnaces, while downstream units such as the new plate mill and Hot Strip Mill-2 also delivered all-time highs. Saleable steel production rose to 41.65 lakh tonnes, reflecting steady year-on-year growth and stronger operational stability. The special plate plant, which serves the defence sector, also achieved its highest-ever output, underlining Rourkela’s growing role in high-value steel production. Beyond volume growth, the plant improved techno-economic metrics including blast furnace productivity, coke rate, and resource efficiency. The performance highlights SAIL Rourkela’s focus on capacity utilisation, cost optimisation, and value-added steel, while reinforcing positive momentum in India’s steel sector.
