The Punjab government has signed an agreement with Tata Steel Limited to establish a ₹2,600 crore green steel plant in Ludhiana, marking a major step toward sustainable industrial development in northern India.
The project will be developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model between Tata Steel and the Punjab State Industrial and Export Corporation (PSIEC). The facility aims to produce low-carbon and high-strength green steel, using advanced recycling and clean-energy technologies.
According to state officials, the plant will have a capacity of 0.75 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) and will focus on decarbonised steelmaking methods to support India’s net-zero 2070 goal.
The investment is expected to create over 3,000 direct and indirect jobs, attract allied industries, and boost Punjab’s role in India’s emerging green manufacturing ecosystem.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann hailed the partnership as a milestone that will “transform Punjab into a green industrial hub,” aligning with the state’s broader push for renewable energy and sustainable growth.
Industry experts view this collaboration as a benchmark project for low-emission steel production in India’s industrial landscape.
