Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially open two large-scale infrastructure projects in Jharkhand that would increase the capacity for coal evacuation and improve operational effectiveness.
Under the 'PM Gatishakti Master Plan', the Tori - Shivpur 3rd Rail Line, spanning 44.37 km across Chatra and Latehar districts, will significantly increase the coal evacuation capability from the North Karanpura coalfields of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), a Coal India Limited (CIL) subsidiary.
The project, with an investment of ₹894 crore is designed to handle 100 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of coal from ongoing and upcoming mining projects, doubling the current capacity of around 45 MTPA.
Additionally, the North Urimari Coal Handling Plant, with a capital expenditure of ₹292 crore is designed to dispatch 7.5 MTPA of coal. It features a fully-mechanized, closed-loop system that is expected to streamline coal dispatch operations, reduce reliance on road transportation, and ensure an uninterrupted coal supply.
These projects are expected to transform the coal sector by increasing loading and transportation capabilities, promoting environmental protection, and ensuring uninterrupted coal supply, thus aligning with the government's commitment to sustainable development in the energy sector.
