NSL to set up new scrap shredder in Maharashtra.
Capacity of 1,50,000 tonnes to aid green steel push.
Operations expected to begin by mid-2026.
NSL Green Steel Recycling, one of India’s emerging eco-friendly steel scrap processing firms, has announced plans to commission a new scrap shredder plant in Maharashtra to strengthen its green steel initiatives.
The upcoming facility will have an initial annual processing capacity of 1,50,000 tonnes of ferrous scrap, aimed at supplying clean, high-density scrap to steel mills and promoting circular economy practices within the industry.
According to company officials, the move aligns with India’s National Steel Policy 2017, which encourages scrap-based steel production to lower carbon emissions and reduce dependency on imported raw materials. The plant will incorporate state-of-the-art European technology to ensure efficient, low-emission operations and high-grade scrap output.
The project, set to begin operations by mid-2026, is expected to improve scrap availability in western India and support the growing demand from secondary steel producers. NSL Green Steel Recycling is also exploring similar projects in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.
Industry experts have welcomed the announcement, viewing it as a positive step toward sustainable steelmaking and improved scrap management infrastructure in India.
