A new 60-kilometre railway line between Chola in Bulandshahr and Rundhi in Palwal is envisaged as a significant improvement in regional connectivity. This line is intended to connect Noida International Airport with key routes to Howrah, Chennai, and Mumbai. This strategic alignment will allow trains departing the airport to travel in different directions.
The completion of designs for additional connecting modes by Yamuna International Airport (YIAPL), the airport concessionaire, is contingent upon the receipt of the detailed project report (DPR) from the railroads.
The project would take about three years to complete and is expected to cost about ₹2,400 crore. The entire route, including connecting tracks, will cover over 99 kilometres, with the main track between Chola and Rundhi stations measuring 61 km. The planned route will serve over 1.2 lakh people initially and will include stations at Rundhi, Chandhat, Jewar Khadar, Airport, Jahangirpur, Bighapur, and Chola.
The project includes constructing five railway flyovers—two on the Chennai-Delhi line and three on the Howrah route—to integrate seamlessly with the existing network passing through Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. It will also include 45 minor road crossings and a significant bridge spanning the Yamuna River.
Officials noted that the alignment is designed to minimize disruption to existing structures and human settlements. It will also avoid interfering with the Eastern Peripheral Expressway and aim to reduce land acquisition challenges.
The proposal to connect the Noida airport with existing lines at Palwal and Chola stations was approved by the railways last year. The eastern freight corridor, which stretches from Kolkata to Amritsar, passes close to the airport, with Chola station being the nearest point along this corridor. On the western side, Palwal serves as the closest point on the Delhi-Mumbai line.
