Union Minister Pralhad Joshi recently inaugurated the second State Mining Ministers’ Conference in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, focusing on making India self-reliant in the mineral sector and encouraging sustainable mining practices. The conference aimed to boost the country's economic growth by emphasising the importance of a robust mining sector.
Key discussions centred around recent reforms in the mining sector, making it easier to conduct business and enhancing transparency. The Minister highlighted the ministry's efforts in supporting the transition to green energy by auctioning 20 critical mineral blocks. This not only aligns with environmental goals but also provides opportunities for state governments to generate additional revenue.
During the conference, there was a visit to an exhibition called "Beyond Mining," where the Union Minister and Chief Minister learned about contributions to the construction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. The Ministry also handed over 87 Mineral Exploration reports to State Governments, facilitating the auction process and promoting responsible mining.
The event acknowledged the efforts of states in the auction process, with Madhya Pradesh receiving the top rank for the year 2022-23. Other states like Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka were also appreciated for their contributions.
Additionally, the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) was highlighted as a crucial aspect of sustainable mining. A Coffee Table book was released during the conference, showcasing 40 stories of interventions ensuring welfare, development, and livelihood in mining-affected areas.
Technical sessions covered best practices in the mining sector, experiences of different state governments, mining reforms of 2023, exploration licenses, critical minerals, offshore mining, and the National Mineral Exploration Trust (NMET).
The conference aimed to strengthen the mining sector, promote sustainable practices and recognise the significant role of states in driving economic growth through responsible mining activities.
