LMEL’s mine to become India’s largest non-coal operation.

63 MTPA production capacity expected post-expansion.

Boost to steel sector and regional employment by 2026.

India-based Lloyds Metals and Energy Limited (LMEL) is on track to establish its iron ore mine as the largest non-coal mine in the country following its latest expansion drive. The company’s operations in Surjagarh, Maharashtra, will see a significant capacity boost as part of its long-term growth strategy, contributing to India’s growing domestic mineral supply ambitions.

Post-expansion, LMEL’s mine will hold a production capacity of 63 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), surpassing other non-coal mining operations in India. The move aligns with the Indian government’s focus on increasing mineral self-reliance and reducing dependency on imported raw materials.

Company officials emphasized that the expanded capacity would support the demand from both steel producers and infrastructure projects within India. Additionally, the project is expected to create substantial employment opportunities and support socio-economic growth in the region.

LMEL’s leadership noted that environmental clearances and operational upgrades are progressing smoothly, with the expanded facility expected to be operational by 2026.

This landmark development positions LMEL as a key contributor to India’s iron ore sector, enhancing raw material security for the country's steel industry and infrastructure pipeline.
