John Cockerill has secured a major contract from JSW Vijayanagar Metallics Limited for a Cold Rolled Non-Oriented electrical steel project at Vijayanagar, Karnataka.
The scope includes design, engineering, equipment supply, installation supervision and commissioning of two Annealing and Coating Lines and one Annealing and Pickling Line. The project will have an annual production capacity of around 600,000 tonnes.Scheduled for completion in 2028, the project marks John Cockerill’s first electrical steel project in India and strengthens its position in advanced steel processing technologies.
The development is significant as demand for electrical steel is rising due to electric mobility, renewable energy and industrial electrification, supporting India’s broader energy transition and manufacturing growth.
