Jindal Steel has significantly expanded its value-added steel capabilities by increasing its heat treatment capacity to 60,000 tonnes per month, making it the largest heat treatment player in India. The company has tripled its earlier monthly capacity of around 20,000 tonnes, reflecting focused investment in advanced plate processing facilities.

Heat treatment is a critical process that enhances the hardness, toughness and overall performance of steel plates used in demanding applications. With the upgraded facilities, Jindal Steel can now process furnace normalised (FN) and quenched & tempered (Q&T) plates in thicknesses ranging from 6 mm to 200 mm and widths of up to 5 metres, catering to high-specification requirements across infrastructure, engineering, energy and heavy machinery sectors.

Company officials noted that the enhanced capacity will help substitute a portion of specialised plate imports by enabling domestic production of high-end grades previously sourced from overseas, directly supporting the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision.

The expansion consolidates Jindal Steel’s position as a key supplier of premium plate products in India and is expected to improve scale efficiencies, shorten delivery timelines and offer consistent quality to large industrial customers, strengthening the company’s competitiveness in both domestic and export markets.
