Jindal Stainless has signed an agreement under the government’s PLI 1.2 scheme for specialty steel, reinforcing India’s push to build stronger domestic capability in high-value steel grades. The move is aimed at expanding capacity and accelerating production of value-added stainless products, including advanced alloys and forged offerings that are widely used in demanding applications.
The pact supports the broader goal of reducing import dependence for critical steel grades while strengthening supply for key industries such as railways, defence, aerospace, electrical equipment, and infrastructure. For manufacturers and buyers, higher local availability of specialty stainless steels can improve lead times, support quality consistency, and boost competitiveness across downstream fabrication and engineering segments.
As India steps up focus on premium steel categories, such incentives are expected to encourage faster technology upgrades, stronger capex pipelines, and improved product mix—helping the sector move beyond commodity volumes toward higher-margin, application-specific steel.
